The right of intervention under the Constitutive Act of the African Union (AU) is a radical departure from, and in stark contrast with the principle of State sovereignty and nonintervention obtainable under the Charter of the Organization of the African Unity (OAU) Peace and Security are essential foundation for Africa development. Africa has had her fair share in destabilizing conflicts in the past especially in the colonial and post colonial days with the dominion of the continent in global political affairs. Efforts at changing the trend led to the formation of the organization of African Unity (OAU), which was to be changed to African Union (AU) later due to practical exigencies of the time.
