Nigeria's Federal Legislative Body, the National Assembly consist of two houses-The House of Reps and the Senate. All Members of the National Assembly are elected directly for every four years. Although as a consequence of being a formal british colony, Nigeria Started with a parliamentary System of Government at independence in 1960. It switched a presidential system modeled after that of the United States in 1979. This was done primarily to achieve a more enhanced separation of power and checks and balances among the three branches of government.
